Reaction of copper with nitric acid
Declan Fleming shows how copper can in fact react with some acids by demonstrating the reaction of copper and nitric acid, producing a visually stunning reaction. Read the article that accompanies this video in the November 2011 issue of Education in Chemistry at http://www.rsc.org/EiC0611ec

In the reaction, isn't it supposed to be NO as a product instead of NO2?
Whoa
Lovely concise demonstration. Thank You
so what is in the flask at the end? I presume nitric acid, water and copper nitrate?
Beautiful.
What's the point if all of this. Who is it helping in this world
What is meant by " the water negates the copper ions"?
AH TOUTE LA SECONDE 4 DE TURGOT : SI QUELQU'UN A COMPRIS JE VEUX BIEN SA FEUILLE (Vertem')
Does anyone know roughly what concentration the acid held?
Thank u very much! 😀
Why would copper react with hno3 and not hcl?
i got blue colour solution insted of green. why people?

In our ASAP Chem Class the Nitric Acid was concentrated to 15.8 Molar just a ballpark range
So this is how they make Nuka Cola Quantum. No wonder so many wastelanders die.
So real life scientists actually DO work surrounded in colorful bubbling bottles! O_O
How to make a mana potion.
Do exactly the same thing this video just showed.
I didn't know that Azure Blue (that's the color) would look THAT beautiful. :O
The blue green at the start is not copper nitrate– it is a nitrato complex. The copper 2 ion is blue and is formed when the water is pulled into the reaction vessel. You can find the equation on this video and a literature citation which explains details of the reaction. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdNyunHuntw
What is the chemical decomposition of the blue color?
I love the contrasting colors of the end products of this reaction
9gag bought me here !
9gag anyone?
SCIENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mana potion!
darude
+Royal Society of Chemistry what about Mercury+Dry Ice+Lava(or Hot Water +200degrees) ? can u make it :)?
mmm blue wkd
What is the tube called that is transporting the water from one flask to another?
How and what is causing the water being absorbed by the tube that goes from one flask to another?
How to make a mana potion
Mana potion.
That blue is so nice
Yay! We're on this lab this week in Chemistry. This was fun. I love the color of the Copper Nitrate. So beautiful.
nice that's cool!
